2019 is winding down, but 2020 design trends are just warming up. For those of you who want to get a head start, we have some of the first predictions from Houzz, a home remodeling site where professionals and homeowners go to share decorating ideas. So, what’s new in 2020 home design trends? Let’s find out!

2020 Home Design Trends

Colorful Kitchens

An all-white palette is timeless, classic, clean, and works well with almost any style. However, kitchens are looking like their set to become much more colorful in 2020. Trends point to homeowners choosing cabinets in a range of cheerful shades from grays and blues to heathery purples. And there’s some evidence that yellow kitchens may be making a comeback.

What’s another option for those who can’t part with their white cabinets? Pops of wood introduced through open shelving, countertops, drawers, range hoods, and pullouts.

The Formal Dining Room Returns

The formal dining room is making a comeback. And, talk about dressing to impress. Next year, Houzz expects homeowners to treat their dining rooms as the “wow” spaces they have the potential to be. If you’re redecorating your dining room or building a new home, consider bold colors, patterns, eye-catching fixtures, and artwork that might not fit elsewhere within the style of the house.

Bathroom Seating

Bathrooms are increasingly becoming more of a spa-like wellness retreat in the home. Benches, stools, and window seats are much more common.

Double Floating Vanities

Speaking of bathrooms, watch for double floating vanities to show up in luxurious bathrooms. These contemporary favorites are a practical approach to free up floor space because of their clean, minimalistic look. Floating vanities are excellent for smaller bathrooms because they can create an illusion of size in a room with minimal square footage.

Fun Laundry Rooms

Have a little fun with your laundry room. Create a space that’s more enjoyable by adding cheerful colors, playful patterns, and quirky design ideas such as:

  • Themed Wallpaper
  • A Chalkboard Wall
  • Creative Storage Solutions

Anything to make the task more enjoyable, right?

Statement-Making Bathrooms

Like kitchens in 2020, Houzz expects bathrooms to move away from all-white bathrooms to incorporate bold colors, statement tiles, and luxury finishes.

The Color Green

The color green is rising to the top of design trends for 2020, with designers calling it the ‘must’ color for 2020. This year Houzz saw a rise in searches for green kitchens (increasing by 50% since 2018), green bedrooms, and bathrooms, which both made their way into the most popular list for the first time.

So, which of these up-and-comers are you planning to bring into your home next year?
